We begin the day as recognizing Labor Day. Many experience this holiday as a vacation from the office but the cause is rooted in a deadly labor strike. In 1894 President Grover Cleveland rushed the establishment of the holiday as a peace offering for the Pullman Strike. The deadly labor struggle caused by the sudden decrease of pay and increased layoffs of the Pullman railroad works based in Chicago lasted longer than U.S Attorney General Richard Olney cared for. Olney issued the first injunction against a labor strike. The National Guard was deployed to squander the dispute resulting in twenty six workers losing their lives.
Since then the United States has celebrated the holiday stemming from May Day originally as a peace offering to workers, a pizza party for morale if you will. Workers still face massive exploitation as wage theft hit 5.8 million workers in 2025 according to research by Cleveland Fed. The U.S Department of Labor recovered over $259 million from companies who owed workers back pay and benefits.
The trends on social media hit a different tone for the holiday. Macklemore the artist known mostly for his Hip-Hop music trended on threads and was accused of antisemitism.

“This you?” posts (StopAntisemitism and others) pairing the caption with older photos/clips they say show Macklemore mocking Jews (including a prosthetic-nose image that circulated again) replied on X where the same caption and video were shared.
Some users claim that “all humans equal” is cover for a one-sided agenda that skips Oct 7, Hamas, hostages, and Israeli civilians.

Users express anger toward the parents who allegedly led the search party composed by hundreds of community members away from where Saylor was last seen toward a tracking device part of Project Lifesaver. The project designed to locate those with cognitive divergence such as individuals with Alzheimer’s, Dementia or Autism. The parents who have now been charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk and willfully abandoning a child. The charges being a felony are punishable by up to ten years in prison and a fine at the courts discretion. (S.C. Code § 63-5-70). The couple who has sparked criticism for having over a 40 year age gap were located in Tennessee and are pending extradition to South Carolina.

Juan Mejia who spoke to CBS News alleged Lundeen became intoxicated and began berating the passenger next to him.
“Just like a light switch, all of a sudden, it went from quiet to yelling and chaos,” Mejia told CBS News. “I turned around to look, and the poor gentleman that was sitting next to him in the aisle seat, the individual had his hands around his neck and was, like, assaulting him.”
Mejia stated another passenger Richard Olenick assisted the flight crew in restraining Lundeen.
Lundeen’s employer has cut ties with the passenger who worked as a realtor.
